Like tuning into radio waves, the sound of our voices contains the many echoes of where we come from. In the 21st century, in a time when we have become global travellers, most of us have more than one accent haunting our past. These accents are our labels, our broken love affairs, our history, our curse and our salvation. And the words we use, do we choose them or do they choose us?
accents on words is a lyrical journey through the wilderness of Canada, the glittering lights of New York, the smooth creaminess of Dublin and the chameleon mix of identities which is London today.
accents on words is a two woman show featuring Aoife Mannix, with all the lyrical wit of the Irish, and Heather Taylor, Canadian wordsmith and sultry singer. It’s a unique blend of poetry and music served up by two extraordinary voices. It will challenge your emotions, it will make you think, and it will make you laugh at the pain of being subsumed into so many different worlds at once.
Aoife Mannix Aoife’s poetry is widely published in anthologies and magazines and has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 4, London Live, Resonance FM and the BBC World Service. In 2003 she recorded a spoken word CD 'Did You Forget To Take Your Tablets?' with musician Richard Lewis. Her first full collection the elephant in the corner was published by thetall-lighthouse in 2005 Lyrical and admirably free of clutter, Aoife’s poems make a direct appeal to the emotions. This is a poet with a fresh, clear voice. Maurice Riordan
