Heather Taylor is a Canadian writer & educator, whose writing has been published throughout Europe & North America & she has been a host on Resonance FM & Sound Radio with guest slots on CKUA (Edmonton), CKUF (Victoria), BBC London Radio and CBC Radio International. Her full collection horizon & back was published by Tall Lighthouse in October 2005.

Heather Taylor studied music, acting and writing in western Canada where she first began performing with Mirror Theatre, a group that co-created and toured social theatre pieces for youth. These performances were combined with workshops that allowed participants to explore what was brought forward in the production and then present a piece of their own to the rest of their school. These shows were brought into schools for students from 7 - 17.

Through the City of Edmonton Parks and Recreation department, Heather trained recreation leaders how to incorporate music and drama into their programming. During this time she created supplements for the leaders and followed by training teen volunteers on the same subject. For over 5 years, she put this into practise on playgrounds, in youth programs, playschool programs and for programmes in the inner city with participants aged 2-17. With the Federal Government in 2001, Heather went on to facilitate a team of youth from across Canada to create and perform vignettes on local history with the challenge of a troupe comprised of mostly of non-actors.

Heather's training collective creation, mask and mime, speech and vocal training, movement, playwrighting, screenwriting, creative writing (poetry and short story), theatre and film and worked on over 30 film and theatre productions both onstage and off. Since arriving in the UK, her work has been seen at Borders, Poetry Café, Book Slam, RADA, Camberwell Arts Festival, Harrow Festival, Runnymede International Literature Festival, and Glastonbury. Her work was also featured at the Arnolfini Gallery and Guardian Newsroom as part of the Remember Saro-Wiwa in 2006. She is one of the founders/ artistic directors of Practicum Theatre and has been a member of Malika’s Poetry Kitchen.

As an educator, Heather works with children, youth and adults in the areas of writing for theatre and film as well as poetry and prose writing and performance. Heather is an experienced workshop leader and has run numerous courses in creative writing for both students and adults. This includes running short scriptwriting courses for women's festivals and conducting poetry workshops to the inmates at HMP Bristol. She also works with preschoolers and under 10s and can cater to what your program needs.

In her most recent project at Blackfriars Settlement with a girls group ages 11-15, the girls commented that by working with Heather they were able to be brave and could work where people always encouraged them and never put them down and in future will now think more about themselves and try and have more confidence and feel more free to express themselves. Read more about this and other projects here.
